About Us

The Leatherworker is a trading name for the Baggott / Hunt family business that operates from two bases: Birmingham, United Kingdom and Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Leatherwork has been a tradition for the Baggott family since around the 1750s and rumour has it, that at one point, they even tanned their own hides in the back yard in London. The business has been passed down through the generations and is now owned by Douglas Baggott and his daughter, Sarah Hunt. Doug has over 60 years’ experience in the leatherworking trade, and is known and respected, around the world for the quality of his craftsmanship, having successfully supplied many major stores including Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Brooks Brothers in New York, to name but a few.

Sarah is equally well respected for her work with leather products and has many fine projects to her credit over the past 15 years.

There are three distinct elements to the business:

  1. The Leatherworker offers a tailormade, heavy duty leather cladding service to the yachting sector in Palma de Mallorca. Details of products and services provided can be found in the Nautical Services section.
  2. A wide selection of leather straps are manufactured and supplied to the classic and vintage car sector.
  3.  Hand made articles, including belts, phone pouches and the Royal Navy Collection of buckets, tankards, and many more items that can be viewed in our On Line shop.

All of our articles are hand-made, using excellent quality leather, thereby maintaining the highest possible standards. This website acts as a gallery of successful projects that the business has undertaken over the past years and allows you to purchase most of these products on line.
